Services
Engagements are scoped to the client's question and usually combine two or more of the services below.
Geospatial analysis and remote sensing
Mapping and measurement of environmental change from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS data, including wetlands, flood extent, fire history, land cover and forest condition. Analyses draw on long Landsat time series, high-resolution commercial imagery and open mapping data.
Typical outputs: Maps, area and change statistics, and a methods report sufficient for independent replication.
Historical and environmental baselines
Reconstruction of past landscape conditions from historical maps, aerial photographs, survey records and archives, aligned with present-day data. This work supports compensation assessments, restoration planning and environmental baselines.
Typical outputs: Georeferenced historical datasets, before-and-after comparisons and full source documentation.
Mixed-methods and social research
Interviews, participatory mapping, discourse analysis and social network analysis, designed together with the spatial analysis so that quantitative and qualitative findings can be read side by side.
Typical outputs: Research protocols, analysed qualitative data and integrated findings.
Forest stewardship and land-use change
Mapping of forest condition, disturbance and land-use change over time, including fire history, insect damage, the spread of invasive species and urban expansion, to support forest stewardship and land management decisions.
Typical outputs: Land-cover and disturbance maps, change statistics and supporting documentation.
Expert evidence
Geospatial analysis prepared for legal proceedings and presented for non-specialist readers. Founder Stephen Chignell has given expert testimony on geospatial analysis in the Federal Court of Canada.
Typical outputs: Expert reports, maps and figures prepared as evidence, and testimony.
Research design, review and synthesis
Study and monitoring design, independent review of proposed methods, advice to project teams on geospatial techniques, and synthesis of findings across disciplines for decision-makers.
Typical outputs: Study designs, method reviews, workshops and synthesis reports.
How engagements work
- Initial consultationA discussion by email or video call of the question, the study area and the data already available.
- Scoping phaseA short, fixed-fee phase that assesses the data, tests the approach and produces a written scope of work with phases and fees.
- Delivery in phasesEach phase has a fixed fee and a defined deliverable, agreed before the phase begins.
- HandoverResults, maps and data are delivered in agreed formats, together with documentation of the methods used.
